Raman Hotel 1011 Howard Street
San Francisco, CA 94103

Summary of the Property

Named after its owner, Raman Patel, the Raman Hotel was acquired by THC in 2005. The building had been damaged by a fire and was in desperate need of renovations, a project that was managed by Patel’s son. Renovations included an additional floor, an elevator, and a rooftop deck with views of the city. After renovations concluded, the Raman Hotel opened its doors to new THC clients as well as individuals who were displaced by the fire. With 84 units, opening the Raman Hotel brought San Francisco closer to its goal of providing 3,000 units of supportive housing within ten years.

Property Details

The population at the Raman primarily consists of senior citizens. The building is handicap accessible with a community kitchen where tenants can use the stove, oven, and microwave to prepare meals. The community room is equipped with a large, flat screen television with cable and a DVD player. THC Support Services and the Property Management teams work collaboratively to create a community that is vibrant and active and to ensure that every voice is heard. Staff host communal meals and holiday parties multiple times a year. They also facilitate recurring social activities including bingo, monthly birthday celebrations, a read-aloud short story club, and coffee hour. THC staff use these activities as opportunities to connect with residents and respond in real time to community concerns in the building.
