Re: SB 948, SUPPORT
Dear Senator Alarcon:
I am writing to express my support for the important bill you are carrying this year, S8 948, to preserve and expand affordable housing through the land use permit process.
S8 948 clarifies that local governments have the ability to regulate and limit demolitions and conversions of rental housing to other uses. This issue is of critical importance in San Francisco where thousands of affordable rental units are at risk of conversion to other uses, threatening to displace many low income families and seniors. SB 948 will protect the authority of local governments to control their existing rental housing supply.
SB 948 makes important changes to existing law designed to expand and protect the supply of affordable housing. I am pleased to support the bill.
Sincerely,
Willie L. Brown, Jr.
Mayor
