A Housing Shortage
To the Editor:
President Clinton’s inclusion of 120,000 new housing vouchers in the next budget (news article, Dec 29) is a positive but all-too-modest step toward addressing the country’s affordable-housing crisis.
Recent studies in Missouri, Minnesota, and elsewhere confirm that an increasing number of recipients cannot use vouchers because of the declining supply of rental units available to the working poor. Building new affordable housing must become the centerpiece of federal housing policy.
