2nd Annual Overdose Prevention Summit

On Thursday May 14, 2026, the 2nd Annual Overdose Prevention Summit was held at the Main Branch of the San Francisco Public Library. The Summit was a collaboration between Tenderloin Housing Clinic, Code Tenderloin, San Francisco Department of Public Health, as well as over twenty other community organizations from across the Bay Area. Tenderloin Housing Clinic’s Director of Recovery Services spearheaded the event alongside Code Tenderloins founder Del Seymour and Executive Director Donna Hilliard. The Summit, which went from 9:00am to 4:00pm, featured panel discussions and workshops with the theme of Building Bridges Through Community Engagement. The 2nd Annual Overdose Prevention Summit purpose was to look at racial disparities in overdose deaths and to come up with strategies to reduce fatal and non-fatal overdoses. Summit attendees participated in workshops by sharing their experiences and expertise, creating a collaborative and open environment that fostered community.

Director of Recovery Services Richard Beal served as the moderator for the morning panel discussion and speakers included Chief of Health & Human Services Kunal Modi, SF Director of Public Health Daniel Tsai, and CEO of Rafiki Coalition Shanelle Williams. Workshop discussions included topics such as “Structural Drivers & Policy Positions,” “Family and Loved Ones Support,” “Black Healing & Culturally Responsive Approaches,” and “Seniors, Overdoses, & Social Isolation.” Volunteers from Code Tenderloin and Tenderloin Housing Clinic staffed the registration table, information tables, took notes during workshops, and organized meals. Attendees received breakfast and lunch, Recovery Swag Bags, and groceries provided by the Booker T Washington Multi Service Center. Over 100 books were given out at part of the San Francisco Public Library’s Read to Recovery program. Richard Beal and four others were surprised to receive Community Service Awards at the end of the Summit.
