THC Director of Recovery Services Richard Beal Awarded Certificate of Honor

On Tuesday, September 16th 2025,  THC’s Director of Recovery Services, Richard Beal, was awarded a Certificate of Honor by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for his work in the recovery community. District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, who introduced the award, shared that Richard was deserving of the honor for “saving lives and building stronger pathways to recovery.” Mahmood shared words of praise from community members and partners in the recovery community, including from Code Tenderloin founder Del Seymour who called Richard “the Tenderloin’s Champion of Recovery.”

Having achieved 30 years of sobriety, Richard uses his personal history with addiction to encourage and support others in their pursuit of recovery. He applies his experience toward hosting events like the annual Recovery Day celebration in Boeddeker park, in making connections with dozens of like-minded organizations, and in his recent book, Recovering from the Game, where he shares more details of his story and the possibility of recovery.

We are honored to have Richard at the helm of our Recovery Services Department which in October of this year will celebrate its 10-year anniversary.
