San Francisco, CA 94102

Summary of the Property

Formerly known as Hotel Eddy and later Hotel Glynn, the Drake Hotel was constructed in 1906 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Drake Hotel was acquired by THC in September 2015 and became the site of THC’s New Horizons Transitional Housing program. The goal of the New Horizon’s program, a partnership with the San Francisco Adult Probation Department (SFAPD), is to reintegrate participants into the community while preventing recidivism. New Horizons participants can reside at any of the Drake Hotel’s 60 units for up to 12 months.

Property Details

Each participant is assigned a room with a small kitchenette including a microwave, flat screen TV with basic cable, mini fridge, and electric cook plate. Upon move-in, participants are assigned a Housing Planning Specialist who works with the participants to complete housing applications, referrals to community services, and to enroll them in the THC Savings Plan Program (SPP). The SPP allows participants to save a percentage of their monthly income in an account with THC. When discharged, they receive their savings to assist with moving costs or place a deposit on a new home. Participants agree to have weekly room inspections to assist in monitoring habitability and are offered the opportunity to learn how to be a good tenant and neighbor. All of these services are provided in a supportive housing manner to prepare participants for future permanent housing.

Participants have access to free on-site laundry services, a community room to host visitors, and a small computer lab to assist in their housing and employment searches. THC also offers on-site skill-building and support groups and partners with community agencies which provide additional support for participant’s recovery and re-entry goals.
